Delicate enamel jewelry for everyday

The world of jewelry is an art, and every year new trends and techniques appear to continue creating accessories that accompany us in designing great looks. And on this occasion, from Mila Jewels we want to show you accessories that have a color coat and that you probably have had, but you did not know what that technique was called.

What are enamel jewels?

Enameled jewelry is a piece that has been applied with a substance made of molten glass sprayed on metal surfaces, which sticks to the metal and creates a finish with the chosen color and design. The enamel applied on the jewel forms a layer of color that merges with the metal and leaves a unique and delicate piece.

Techniques of jewelry enameling

There are five different techniques that the enameller can use to create varied jewelry designs:

- Cloisonnée: this technique is the oldest and consists of placing wires on the piece of metal in order to give the design to the jewel and that the colors do not mix.

- Grey: through this technique white enamel is applied on dark surfaces to create a shadow design on the metal jewel.

- Plique-à-jour: with this technique, beautiful jewels are designed through which the light is allowed to pass through the color enamel creating an effect of impressive brightness. For this technique, the enamel is not applied on a metal base, but placed between cells or wires and when the enamel is dry the colors look like stained glass.

- Champlevé: the enamel is added in compartments as in the "Cloisonnée" technique, with the difference that in this technique depressions are created with a chisel which will then be filled with the enamel.

- Limoges: this technique is the most common and designs are created by letting the glazes be mixed without using any wire or grid that separates the colors.
